Traditional Thai Massage

A centuries-old Thai healing art that combines pressure points, stretching and rhythmic compression to free tight muscles and restore movement.

What is it?

Traditional Thai massage is different from an oil massage. Your therapist uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows and feet to apply pressure along the body's energy lines, and guides your limbs into gentle assisted stretches, a bit like passive yoga. It is usually done on a floor mattress, with you wearing comfortable clothes.

Benefits

• May relieve muscle tension and stiffness
• Helps improve flexibility and range of movement
• Stimulates circulation and leaves many guests feeling energised
• Works on the whole body, not only the sore spot

Who is it for?

People who sit a lot, travellers with stiff backs and hips, active guests, and anyone who wants an authentic Thai experience. Pressure can be strong, so tell your therapist how much you can take. Skip or talk to us first if you have a recent injury, osteoporosis, a hernia, are pregnant, or take blood thinners.

What to expect

1. A short check-in about your health, stiff areas and preferred pressure
2. You lie on a mattress in loose, comfortable clothing
3. The therapist works from feet to head, pressing, rocking and stretching
4. Some moves may feel intense but should never hurt. Speak up at any time
5. You finish with a few minutes to rest

Duration and Price

Available in 60, 90 or 120 minutes. 90 minutes gives time for a full-body session with extra attention on your problem areas. Prices vary by shop.

How to prepare

Wear loose, stretchy clothes if you have them (we also provide). Do not eat a large meal in the hour before. Arrive a few minutes early.
